Day 1: Trust

Proverbs 3:5-6

Leaning not on your own understanding

Opening Prayer

Gracious Father, as this new day begins, I choose to place my trust in you above all else. Quiet the anxious thoughts that tempt me to rely on my own understanding, and help me lean into your faithful presence.

Leaning not on your own understanding

Reflection

Trust is the bedrock of every relationship, and our relationship with God is no different. When we trust someone, we believe they have our best interests at heart even when we cannot see the full picture. Trusting God means acknowledging that his perspective is infinitely larger than ours. It does not mean we will never experience confusion or pain, but it means we believe God is working even in what we cannot understand. Consider a time when something that seemed terrible at the moment later proved to be a turning point for good. That is trust vindicated by hindsight. Today, practice trusting God with one specific situation where you feel uncertain. Release your grip on controlling the outcome and consciously place it in God's hands. You may find that the peace you have been searching for comes not from having answers but from trusting the One who does.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I surrender my need to understand everything and choose to trust your heart. Thank you that your plans for me are good. Give me eyes to see your faithfulness and a heart at peace in your care. Amen.
