Day 6: Love

1 John 4:19

We love because he first loved us

Opening Prayer

God who is love, today remind me that every capacity I have to love comes from being loved by you first. Let your love flow through me to everyone I encounter, especially those who are hardest to love.

Scripture Focus

1 John 4:19

We love because he first loved us

Reflection

Love is the central theme of the entire Bible — God's relentless, pursuing, sacrificial love for humanity. First John tells us that we love because God loved us first. This means love is not primarily an achievement but a response. We do not generate love from within ourselves through willpower; we receive it from God and let it flow through us to others. This reframing is liberating. When you struggle to love a difficult person, the solution is not to try harder but to return to the source and let God's love for you fill you to overflowing. Love is also practical. It is patient and kind. It keeps no record of wrongs. It always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. Today, choose one person and love them with specific, tangible action. Write a note of appreciation, offer help with a burden, listen without interrupting, forgive a grudge. Let God's love for you become God's love through you.

Journal Prompt

Who in your life needs to experience God's love through you today? What specific, tangible action of love can you take?

Closing Prayer

Loving Father, thank you for loving me first and always. Fill me so completely with your love that it naturally overflows to everyone around me, especially those I find difficult to love. Amen.
