Implied Powers

Powers of the federal government that are not specifically written in the Constitution but are suggested by the "necessary and proper" clause to carry out enumerated powers.

Examples of Implied Powers

  • The power to create a national bank is an implied power, derived from the power to collect taxes.
  • Congress uses implied powers to adapt to new situations not foreseen by the Constitution's writers.
